Background

The Challenge

Currently, in the TMB metro network there are nine stations with platforms built in a curve. This arrangement generates a gap (space between the platform and the train abutment) that exceeds 30 mm measured vertically and 75 mm measured horizontally. This space makes access to the train difficult for all users. In the case of people with reduced mobility, and especially wheelchair users, this distance can prevent them from accessing the train. This gap also poses other problems for metro users: passengers can trip, fall or suffer injuries when entering or exiting the train, which at the same time can cause delays in entering and exiting trains and negatively affect efficiency. and punctuality of service.

The solution we are looking for would be applicable not only to the TMB metro network, but would solve a problem shared by other railway operators with similar infrastructures on a global scale.
