The Challenge

The LEZ4ALL project, spearheaded by the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB), aims to address the pressing challenges associated with implementing Low Emission Zones (LEZs) in urban areas.

What is the challenge?

Urban areas across Europe are increasingly adopting Low Emission Zones to combat air pollution and promote sustainable mobility. However, implementing LEZs presents several challenges, including:

  • Ensuring equitable access for all citizens.
  • Integrating LEZ policies with existing urban mobility plans.
  • Managing the socio-economic impacts on residents and businesses.
  • Coordinating among various stakeholders and governmental levels.

Who can apply?

The LEZ4ALL project is primarily targeted at metropolitan areas and cities that are planning to implement or have already established Low Emission Zones.

Municipal authorities, urban planners, and policy-makers involved in sustainable urban mobility initiatives are encouraged to engage with the project. While the project itself may not have an open application process, interested parties can benefit from its findings, participate in related events, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on LEZ implementation.

Background

Initiated by AMB, the LEZ4ALL project seeks to develop inclusive and effective strategies for Low Emission Zones. By fostering collaboration among European metropolitan areas, the project aims to share best practices, address common challenges, and promote policies that ensure LEZs are accessible and beneficial to all citizens. The project underscores the importance of integrating social equity considerations into environmental policies, ensuring that measures to improve air quality do not inadvertently disadvantage vulnerable populations.
