Background

Background

In 2022-2023, a new long-distance bus terminal will be built at Dybbølsbro in Copenhagen to support both domestic and foreign long-distance bus traffic. The goal of the Copenhagen Bus Terminal is to gather long-distance bus traffic to and from Copenhagen close to other public transport (e.g. Dybbølsbro Station) to ensure good accessibility for the approx. 1.4 million annual long-distance bus passengers/expected terminal users.

Objectives

An intelligent transport system (ITS system) must be established and operated for e.g. support for handling bus and service vehicle traffic in and out of the Copenhagen Bus Terminal area. The ITS solution consists of a number of technical sub-systems and functions, including e.g. passenger information system, allocation system for the terminal's parking spaces, video surveillance of traffic and areas in the terminal area, etc. A comprehensive ITS solution must therefore be established for:

  • Handling of bus operators' use of the bus terminal - booking of resources at the bus terminal, ongoing administration of bookings and actual use of the bus terminal's resources incl. invoicing.
  • Identification of vehicles arriving at and departing from the bus terminal area.
  • Access control in relation to vehicles to the bus terminal area.
  • Guidance for drivers arriving at the bus terminal area.
  • Traffic information for arriving and departing passengers.
  • Supporting the operation of the bus terminal without the permanent presence of bus terminal staff, i.e. possibility of remote monitoring and control of the bus terminal and its installations via automatic system event registration, reporting of errors on technical installations, video surveillance of the bus terminal area, bus terminal traffic and people movements, etc.
