The Challenge

The AI Factories initiative by EuroHPC JU provides access to high-performance computing (HPC) resources to support AI startups, SMEs, industry, and scientific communities across Europe. It offers various access modes tailored to different levels of expertise and computational needs, helping scale the development and adoption of advanced AI technologies. There are two main access tracks and modes as detailed below:

AI for Industrial Innovation

  • Playground Access: limited resources for entry-level AI users
  • Fast Lane Access: up to 50,000 GPU hours for AI SMEs familiar with HPC
  • Large Scale Access: over 50,000 GPU hours for demanding AI workloads
Eligibility: Open and free-of-charge for SMEs/startups using AI for innovation. Commercial access available for others.

AI for Science and Collaborative Projects

  • Supports scientific applications of AI, including foundation models and ethical AI
  • Intended for publicly funded research or Horizon Europe collaborative projects
Eligibility: Free-of-charge access for eligible public/private users

Who can apply?

This opportunity is open to both industrial innovation and scientific research tracks and supports public and private actors, including startups and Horizon Europe project partners. Free-of-charge access is available for eligible users.

The opportunity may be particularly relevant for organisations offering or involved in: AI model development, including LLMs and generative AI; industrial applications of machine learning; publicly funded scientific research involving AI; or collaborative Horizon Europe or Digital Europe projects.

Background

The European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) is a joint initiative between the EU, European countries and private partners to develop a world class Supercomputing Ecosystem.

The EuroHPC JU allows the European Union and the EuroHPC JU participating countries to coordinate their efforts and pool their resources to make Europe a world leader in supercomputing, boosting Europe's scientific excellence and industrial strength and supporting the digital transformation of its economy while ensuring technological sovereignty.
