Challenge Area addressed

Pollution Reduction

Tyre wear and non-exhaust emissions (NEEs) are the hidden challenge of the transport industry. These pollutants significantly contribute to urban air contamination and microplastic pollution in oceans. Despite targeted policy measures like Euro 7, NEEs caused by tyre, brake, and road wear have continued to rise, particularly in electric vehicles (EVs).

The Tyre Collective addresses this issue by developing on-vehicle solutions to capture and monitor tyre wear using patented electrostatic technology. The captured particles, a micronised rubber, can be upcycled into various rubber products, promoting a closed-loop system. The first product is a retrofit aftermarket device designed for commercial vans. Additionally, collaborations with vehicle manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers aim to integrate this technology into all EVs, acting as a catalytic converter for tyre wear.

By tackling this critical issue, these innovations help protect air quality and reduce the impact of tyre wear!
