Background

The competition's aim is to foster the creation of groundbreaking commercial solutions, which may include mobile applications or hardware-based innovations, that harness EU Space data from Galileo and/or Copernicus. The application process is currently accessible for all three tracks.

Every participating team should suggest a solution that focuses on one of the following innovation domains:

  • Participate in the Next Generation Challenge by leveraging EU space data from Galileo and/or Copernicus to offer innovative solutions that tackle significant societal challenges in areas like health and well-being, citizen safety, security, and connectivity.
  • Join the Sustainable Future Challenge by presenting innovative solutions designed to address areas such as ecosystem conservation, sustainable agriculture, and efficient energy and resource management.
  • Participate in the Emerging Technologies Challenge by introducing innovative solutions that integrate EU space data with cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum technologies (quantum computing, sensing, simulation, encryption, etc.), Blockchain, Metaverse, and Extended Reality (Augmented Reality (AR) / Mixed Reality (MR) / Virtual Reality (VR).

Product Award

The application must introduce a product that is prepared for commercialization or is already available in the market. It should also include details about the typical use case of the product, the customer needs it serves, and the value it offers. The anticipated Technology Readiness Level (TRL) range for applications in this track is TRL8-TRL9.

The top 5 ranked applicants who submitted a product, irrespective of their chosen innovation area, will each be granted a prize of €100,000 (one hundred thousand Euros) each.

Important Note: Teams that have received an award for their idea are eligible to apply again in other tracks (i.e., prototype or product) within the respective deadlines. Similarly, teams that have been awarded for their prototype can apply in the product track within the applicable deadline.
