Germany-Leipzig: Open space design for “Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz”
Background
The aim of the competition is to develop an open space planning concept for the design of Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz, the access roads and the future neighbourhood square. The aim is to develop the public spaces of the new inner-city quarter in a future-oriented, sustainable, climate-resilient and ecological way and to create a high quality of stay.
To commemorate the Peaceful Revolution in the fall of 1989, the Bundestag decided on November 9, 2007 to erect a monument to the freedom and unity of Germany in Berlin. In 2008, the Bundestag decided to commemorate the events in Leipzig and to create a freedom and unity monument there too.
The competition for the monument will follow the competition for the open space design. The consideration of the planned monument is therefore a further aim of the competition for open space design with regard to the design of the surrounding area as well as with regard to the selection of suitable locations. The number of participants is limited to up to 25 participants through a preliminary application process using a lottery system.
The competition process will be carried out anonymously until the conclusion of the jury meeting. The competition language is German. The competition is aimed at landscape architects.
