EU Cities Mission: Open call for Twin Cities
The Challenge
The call aims to address the challenge of achieving climate neutrality in European cities. The Twinning Learning Programme is designed to foster connections between cities facing similar challenges and sharing interests in various emissions domains. The programme facilitates the transfer of knowledge and best practices from Pilot Cities to Twin Cities, enabling them to embed successful solutions in their local contexts to accelerate the transition to climate neutrality across Europe by 2050.
Who can apply?
Any city located within EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries that is not currently part of the Twinning Learning Programme, the Pilot Cities Programme, or the EU Cities Mission can apply.
Applicants must be committed to reaching climate neutrality before or by 2050.
Background
This new call is part of the EU Cities Mission, which aims to support 112 cities in achieving climate neutrality by 2030 and all European cities by 2050. The selected Twin Cities will participate in an 18-month tailored learning programme that involves knowledge sharing and the transfer of good practices between Pilot and Twin Cities. The programme includes facilitated modules - Getting started, Co-creating, and Capitalising - and culminates in the development of a Twin City Action Plan, embedding learnings from Pilot Cities to drive climate action at the local level. The initiative is managed by NetZeroCities, a consortium supporting cities in overcoming barriers to achieving climate neutrality.
