Background

The primary objective of social innovators is to offer solutions to real-world issues, effectively addressing societal needs and public demands. With this mission in mind, we are proud to announce the launch of the seventh edition of the Fundación MAPFRE Social Innovation Awards, in collaboration with IE as our esteemed academic partner. This edition expands its reach to include projects from four major regions: Brazil, the rest of Latin America, Europe, and the United States of America.

In this latest iteration, we are actively promoting innovative projects with significant potential for creating a positive social impact in the following categories:

  • Safe and Sustainable Mobility
  • Silver Economy: Opportunities for the Senior Population
  • Health Improvement and Digital Technology (e-Health)

From the pool of submitted projects, a total of 12 finalists will be selected (3 finalists per category and per region). These finalists will receive invaluable coaching sessions from IE University and will advance to the Grand Final.

The three winning projects (one per category) will be awarded a cash prize of 40,000 euros to support the advancement of their initiatives. Additionally, they will benefit from free consultancy services provided by Fundación EY (FEY), our esteemed partner for this sixth edition of the awards. Furthermore, all members of the social innovation community associated with our awards will have the opportunity to engage in knowledge exchange and receive expert support through the Red Innova innovation network.

Spotlight: Safe and Sustainable Mobility

Our concentrated efforts in this category are dedicated to the prevention of unintentional injuries, particularly those stemming from road traffic incidents. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), road traffic injuries are the primary cause of death globally among individuals aged 5-29 years. The majority of these incidents, along with other unintentional injuries, are preventable.

In this category, our aim is to acknowledge and encourage initiatives that enhance community safety and decrease the occurrence of road traffic injuries and other unintentional injuries. These initiatives should work towards:

Prevention of Unintentional Injuries:

  • Reducing the risk of everyday incidents that may lead to injuries.
  • Minimizing the consequences of injuries resulting from incidents.
  • Fostering a societal culture of injury prevention as an integral part of well-being.
  • Ensuring accessibility to prevention measures for all segments of society.

Safe and Sustainable Mobility:

  • Lowering the risk of travel-related incidents that could result in injuries.
  • Decreasing injuries in the event of such incidents.
  • Cultivating a broader societal commitment to injury prevention for overall well-being.
  • Ensuring accessibility to prevention measures for diverse segments of society.
  • Making various mobility options environmentally sustainable.
